COMMUNITY ACTION FOR PEMBURY CIRCUS
THE ISSUES
Pembury Circus is one of the most dangerous and inaccessible junctions in Hackney, and one of the most polluted sites in the UK. Air quality is in breach of 3 W.H.O recommendations and in the 99th percentile for the worst pollution in the country.
In January 2023 Hackney Council received £19 million through the Levelling Up scheme to redesign the junction, but the funding expires on 31 March 2025.
We are a community-led initiative of residents, businesses and workers based in Pembury Circus. We are campaigning to ensure improvements are made before the funding expires and the changes address local community concerns.
PROJECT TIMELINE*
> Jan-Feb 2024 – Public Consultation
> Sept 2024 – Pembury Circus detailed design complete
> Sept 2024 – Construction starts
> Dec 2026 – Construction ends
*As outlined by Hackney Council in CHE S224 Hackney Central & Pembury Circus Green Corridor Cabinet Report
